OSCE trains police officers on combating domestic violence in Kazakhstan

AKIPRESS.COM - A three-day training seminar and a public discussion of the legal acts and mechanisms regulating the police’s work in combating domestic violence concluded on July 30 in Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar Region, the OSCE reported.

These events along with four upcoming training seminars for law-enforcement officers on this issue in other regions of Kazakhstan aim at building the capacity of police inspectors who respond to calls on possible domestic violence cases. The project will be implemented in Almaty, Karaganda, Pavlodar and Uralsk, bringing together participants from the surrounding regions.

In addition to police officers being trained to respond to domestic violence, workers from non-governmental organizations will assess the work of the police in this area.

The training seminars are part of the Programme Office’s multi-year efforts to assist the host country and civil society representatives in preventing and combating domestic violence and in offering professional social services to victims.
