CEC refuses to create conditions for Tekebayev's participation in state language test

AKIPRESS.COM - The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan declined the request of MP Omurbek Tekebayev to create conditions for passing the state language proficiency test as a presidential candidate.

During the CEC meeting on August 10, the CEC member Almaz Asanaliyev reminded that the leader of Ata-Meken party on July 17 filed an application for nomination as a presidential candidate.

Asanaliyev noted that a probe against Tekebayev was launched on February 25 on corruption and fraud charges. Today, the parliamentarian's case is being considered by court, therefore, he is under the jurisdiction of the court, he added.

The CEC member also reminded that the citizens might be elected as president while meeting the requirements, including providing a State Language Proficiency Certificate.

"The CEC handed over a list of candidates to the National Commission for State Language. Tekebayev's transferring and passing the test is under the jurisdiction of the court. The CEC is not authorized to decide this issue. Therefore, the working group recommends to dismiss the request of Tekebayev's representative to create conditions for passing the test," Asanaliyev said.

Following the heated arguments at the meeting, the majority of the CEC members decided refuse to satisfy Tekebayev's appeal to create conditions for passing the test.
