Uzbekistan stands for expansion of Central Asian energy ring

AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan seeks to take a number of measures on expansion and strengthening of so-called Central Asian energy ring. This was announced at the press conference of Uzbekenergo company. Podrobno.uz reported.

The unified energy system in the region was creates during the Soviet Union times and allowed Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to use common capacities and not to face problems with a shortage of electricity. However, after the USSR collapse, various kinds of disagreements emerged between the countries.

The energy system of Uzbekistan and Cenral Asia today is operating in a ring mode, 500-220 kV are being transmitted.

"In addition, there are parallel sections of the energy system of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. In the future, we will take measures to expand and strengthen the ring. Now we are working with Afghanistan and help the Afghan people," Chief of the strategic management development of Uzbekenergo Eso Sadullayev reported.

To date, Uzbekenergo annually produces more than 60 billion kW/h of electricity, including 10% are produced by the hydropower plants and 90% - by thermal power stations.
