National Security Committee liquidates two terrorists plotting attacks on Independence Day

AKIPRESS.COM - National Security Committee said Monday it has liquidated two terrorists plotting attacks on Independence Day in the night of August 29. The special operation was held in Jayil district of Chuy region, the statement said.

The two men were linked to previous incident with the patrol officers, the statement said.  The incident occurred in the night of August 24 on the Auezov street near the rail crossing when the patrol police made a traffic stop of the Nissan Presage car for violation of traffic rule (running red light). When asked to show documents, the men inside the car threatened the authorities with a gun and a grenade and fled the scene.

During the search operation, the employees of the Committee found out that the two were members of the terror group plotting attacks during Independence Day (August 31) celebrations in Bishkek and Chuy region using improvised explosive devices.

One of the members of group was detained on August 28 in Bishkek. On August 29, the remaining 3 members of the gang were identified and police established their location.

"During the special operation in Jayil district, the perpetrators were blocked and requested to surrender, but they opened fire instead. The two militants were killed during exchange of fire, the third was injured and taken to hospital," the statement said.

No deaths and injured were reported among the National Security Committee officers, the statement said.

A grenade, Makarov pistol and knifes were found and seized at the scene.

"Additionally, the Committee identified and apprehended accomplices of the terrorist group K.O born in 1960 and T.A. born in 1985. They were taken into pretrial detention facility," the statement adds.

Probes were launched, investigation is under way.
