AKIPRESS.COM - The U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Millard in her farewell video-address on August 30 thanked the residents of Tajikistan for hospitality and congratulated on the upcoming Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, the U.S. Embassy reported.
"Although it has been over a year and a half, it seems as if I only arrived yesterday. I want to thank the people of Tajikistan for welcoming me and making me feel at home. Your country has stunning beauty and your language and culture are profoundly rich, but it is your unending hospitality that I will never forget. Coming to Tajikistan wasn’t easy for me. My husband had just passed away, and I was leaving my five children and my precious grandchildren on the other side of the world, but your warmth, your generosity, and your kindness allowed me to thrive. As your great poet Mirzo Tursunzoda said, “Don’t forget the hospitality of the Tajik people!” I definitely will not," she said.
Elizabeth Millard completed her diplomatic mission in Tajikistan and will return to Washington on August 31. She will assume a senior position in the State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.
