OIC member states express deep concern about situation in Myanmar

AKIPRESS.COM - Senior leaders of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states stressed the importance of taking an immediate action to end the ongoing violence against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, Press TV reports.

On the sidelines of the first OIC summit on science and technology in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana, the participants held an emergency meeting on the situation in Myanmar amid the fresh wave of violence against the minority group and issued a statement.

The statement called for cooperation among Muslim countries aimed at dispatching humanitarian aid to the Rohingya and attending to the condition of the refugees.

The OIC leaders attending the Astana summit also expressed their deep concern about crimes and violence against the Rohingya Muslims.

"The Meeting  called upon the Government of Myanmar to accept the UN Human Rights Council’s fact finding mission to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into all alleged violations of international human rights law and to  bring the perpetrators to justice," the  statement reads.

"The Meeting urged the Government of Myanmar to honour its obligations under international  law and human rights covenants, and to take all measures to immediately halt acts of dispersion and discriminatory practices a gainst Rohingya Muslims, as well as the continuous attempts to obliterate their Islamic culture and identity, including delisting them from household lists and demolition of places of worship, institutions and houses of Muslim minorities," the  statement reads.
