AKIPRESS.COM - Economy of Almaty city is five times bigger than GDPs of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev during his visit to Almaty, the presidential press office reports.
Almaty has become as a huge economic center and became a modern Kazakh metropolis of global level, he said.
"Throughout the independence, economic indicators of the city have increasingly been growing and reached high levels. According to information given to me, the volume of economy of Almaty is twice bigger than Georgia's GDP and almost 5 times bigger than the GDPs of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. This is an evidence of successful development of not only the city, but the country as a whole," Nazarbayev said.
"Almaty is a donor of the state budget, metropolis is showing best results in doing small and medium businesses among the rest of the nation," he said.
Kyrgyzstan's GDP in the first 8 months of 2017 was 283 billion som growing 6% year-on-year, according to the Head of the Department of Economic Statistics and National Accounts Elvira Isenkulova.
