Aida Salyanova handed 5 years suspended prison sentence

AKIPRESS.COM - Lenin district court of Bishkek sentenced Aida Salyanova to 5 years in prison delaying the defendant's serving of her sentence until her child turns 14 year old.

The judge also ruled on October 10 to confiscate her property.

Salyanova, former Prosecutor General and former Justice Minister, was found guilty of power abuse.

In December 2016, the National Security Committee accused her of illegal renewal of a license of Maxim Bakiyev's lawyer, Alexey Yeliseyev.

According to the authorities, Salyanova signed on 28 June 2010 the renewal of the lawyer-license of Yeliseyev, who then allegedly transferred assets of Maksim Bakiyev, son of the ousted president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev, offshore.

Yeliseyev was the sole owner of the Alfa Telecom (MegaCom) mobile operator company established in June 2009. In 2010, Kyrgyzstan took 49% shares of the company under the state ownership and four years later, MegaCom was fully nationalized.

Salyanova denied any wrongdoing and said that then Deputy Justice Minister Jyldyz Mambetaliyeva assured her "there was no legal ground for refusing to renew Yeliseyev's license."
