President of Kazakhstan orders government to address Kyrgyz-Kazakh border issues

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered the Government of Kazakhstan to address the issues surrounding Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.

The move came after a brief meeting of Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sapar Isakov with Nazarbayev on the sidelines of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Sochi on October 11.

Spokesperson of the Kyrgyz Government Gulnura Toraliyeva said Isakov told Nazarbayev about the current situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border and requested to solve the situation, because it affects not only Kyrgyz and Kazakh people, but also citizens of third countries. 

"President of Kazakhstan ordered the Government to remove the issues that have arisen," she said.

On October 10 evening, a huge traffic jam was reported in the Ak Jol checkpoint on Kyrgyz-Kazakh border, people faced troubles in crossing the border from Kyrgyzstan into Kazakhstan, while people crossed the Kyrgyz border from Kazakhstan without any extra difficulties. A huge line of trucks was also seen stranded on the border area.

According to the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan, starting from 6 pm October 10, the Kazakhstani side has switched its works on checkpoints on Kyrgyz-Kazakh border to enhanced mode. "It therefore caused accumulation of passenger traffic, cargo and vehicles across the state border," the statement said.

Additionally, starting from 10 pm October 10, the Kyrgyz State Border Serviced switched to enhanced mode of operation in connection with upcoming presidential election due on October 15.
