Uzbekistan to digitize its library collections by 2020

AKIPRESS.COM - national library of uzbekistan The national education electronic library project will be implemented in Uzbekistan during 2014-2015 as part of the Healthy Child Year Government Program, which was earlier approved by the presidential order.

The project will be carried out with financial assistance of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of Korea, which will provide $14.6 million soft loan. Besides, 85 million soums from the public budget of Uzbekistan will be allocated for the project implementation.

The project will support creation of the center for scanning and digitization of print editions, audiomaterials, videos and photos, as well as multimedia information resources center will be established for transliteration of national books and print editions, creation of multimedia and electronic textbooks, audiobooks.

The project will also support creation of the integrated information and library network to be connected to 20 major libraries of the country by 2015, 2,000 resource centers by 2016-2018, rest libraries by 2020.

The collection of the Alisher Navoi National Library will be digitized over 5 years. Collections of all libraries are due to be digitized by 2020, including 10 million books.
