AKIPRESS.COM - Issues of social development of the homeworkers in Kyrgyzstan were discussed in Issyk-Kul. Seventy people from more than 10 countries, representatives of homeworkers, the public authorities, local governments, WIEGO, the Aga Khan Foundation, the labor union of light and textile industry, the employers' associations, institutional donors, NGOs and others participated in the conference.
The conference aimed to discuss the ways and methods of improving the homeworkers’ social status in Kyrgyzstan. The participants shared the information about the workers’ working and living conditions; discussed the issues of market development for improving the efficiency of product promotion, to identify the government’s strategy elements aimed at ensuring access to social protection of homeworkers and the role of local government agencies for developing of homework system.
The participation of the representatives of the labor units and homeworkers’ associations from Georgia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Uzbekistan, other CIS and East European countries provided participants a huge opportunity for wide sharing of experience on increasing the social status of homeworkers in different countries.
The conference was held within the project on mobilization of public-private partnership supporting women in order to develop small business, which is funded by IFAD-AKF, and on strengthening the outworkers' movement, funded by WIEGO (Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing & Organizing).
