AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolia joined the Antarctic Treaty System in March 2015. The Mongolian Water Association has been working on a joint research project with a Bulgarian team to select the ideal location for a national research base in Antarctica, News.mn reported.
The Mongolian base will be on the Southern Continent’s Livingston Island. The public budget would provide US$250,000 to cover the first phase of the research base project. If the government provides the funds, it will allow Mongolia to have a large scientific research center in Antarctica.
To date, 20 countries have joined the Antarctic Treaty System in order to conduct research there.
