Delhi’s IGI and Mumbai’s CSI airports retain jointly world’s number 1 position

AKIPRESS.COM - IGI Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has retained the world’s number 1 position for the second consecutive year in 25-40 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) category. The rankings were announced by the Airports Council International (ACI), reports Hindustan Times.

In 2007, a year after the airport was privatised, the airport’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) ranking was 101 in the world. In 2011, the airport moved to number 2 position, which it retained till 2013. In 2014, it became no. 1 in the 25-40 MPPA category and retained the rank in 2015 with a score of 4.96 in ASQ survey on scale of 1 to 5.

“The IGI Airport partners and employees have relentlessly delivered distinct experience to our passengers enabling us to achieve three awards, including world no. 1 position twice in a row, best airport by size and region – Asia Pacific (25 – 40 MPPA) and second best airport by region – Asia Pacific,” said I Prabhakara Rao, CEO, DIAL.

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) has been ranked the Best Airport in the World for 2015 in the 25-40 million passengers per annum category, an airport official said in Mumbai on March 1.

The rating by Airports Council International in the Airport Service Quality Awards, reflects the world's best-in-class airports appraised by the passengers while they are travelling, the official said.

This is also the fifth consecutive time that the CSIA figures among the top five airports globally in the same category, besides several other awards bagged in the past two years.

Additionally, the 2015 survey has put CSIA in the second place in the Best Airport category for airports in the Asia-Pacific Region that notch traffic of more than two million passengers per year.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd managing director Sanjay Reddy said the CSIA had started off with a vision to be among the best airports in the world.

"The award is validation of the fact that our efforts towards establishing world-leading service quality are headed in the right direction. We have continuously upgraded our services to delight guests and offer best-in-class comforts and convenience," he said.

CSIA's famed Terminal 2 has been the proving ground and the pedestal of success to the MIAL's initiatives on excellence, efficiency, safety, sustainability and environment care, he said.
