Fire breaks out at textiles market in Ulaanbaatar

AKIPRESS.COM - firefighters A fire broke out at the textile, clothing and second-hand market of the Narantuul Trade Center in Ulaanbaatar. The incident occurred on March 3, 2016 at approximately 2.00 am in the morning. Damage has not been assessed yet, The UB Post reports.

Firefighters of the National Emergency Management Agency extinguished the fire by 7.00 am; an hour later, the police took over the site and refused to let anyone enter the damaged area.

“We received a report about fire at the Narantuul Trade Center at 3.39 am... The textiles market's area is 5,700 square meters and the fire spread to over 2,500 square meters. A total of 102 firefighters from nine rescue teams worked at the site," said the National Emergency Management Agency.

“I have been selling textiles at Narantuul for 15 years. I had products worth about 15-16 million togrog... Why does fire always break out before dawn?” mourns one of the local vendors.

The General Police Department of Ulaanbaatar said that officers are working to determine the cost of damages from the fire.

Fire had already broken out at the Narantuul Trade Center. It covered the food market in August 2013, killing one woman. An investigation revealed that the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring back then.
