AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolian doctors held a rally on April 26 at the Chinggis Square, according to GoGo.

The doctors consider the updated Criminal Code, which is coming into force from September 1, too strict as punishment and penalties against doctors would be equal to those committing crimes against human life and health.

Thus, the updated Criminal Code says a doctor who causes someone's death unintentionally is to be punished by a fine of up to 80 million togrog (around US$40 thousand), suspension of license to practice medicine for up to 3 years or imprisonment for up to 8 years.

Following the rally, President of Mongolia Tsakhia Elbegdorj met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Sports Sambuu Lambaa and expressed willingness to set a bill reflecting the doctors' request.

The Labor Union of Mongolian Medical Professionals also handed a petition with signatures of 10,000 medical workers to Prime Minister Chimed Saikhanbileg, the Minister of Justice, the Acting Minister of Health, the Speaker of the Parliament, and others, thus questioning the updated Criminal Code.

The protesters officially claimed they would begin "another form of struggle," if they do not receive the proper response.
