Exhibits from Turkmenistan on display at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art

AKIPRESS.COM - museiman_met01The international loan exhibition Court and Cosmos: The Great Age of the Seljuqs has opened at the US largest art gallery – the Metropolitan Museum of Art, reports Turkmenistan.ru.

Among other exhibits, the exhibition features for the first time the works of art from the collections of Turkmenistan’s museums such as the State Museum, the Mary Local History Museum and the Koneurgench Museum.

The exhibition presents a number of unique objects from ancient Merv and other cities of the Merv oasis. In total, the exhibition presents about 270 objects from the American, European, Middle Eastern and Central Asian public and private collections. These items such as ceramics, glass, stucco, works on paper, woodwork, textiles, and metalwork are shown for the first time.

Founded in 1870, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest art museum in the United States, and one of the ten largest museums in the world. The museum houses over two million objects, tens of thousands of which are on view at any given time. The MET annually welcomes over six million visitors from around the world.
