AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolia might allow dual citizenship contrary to the current law, stating that Mongolian citizens are not allowed to hold citizenship of more than one nation at the same time, according to News.mn.
Some 4 thousand 400 Mongolians have been born outside of their homeland over the last 16 years. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tsendiin Munkh-Orgil noticed that the government intends to discuss a draft law on dual citizenship in order to improve national security.
2 thousand Mongolians, who've been born abroad since 1998, actually have dual citizenship. Many of them live in the U.S. and Germany. Some 43 schools and Mongolian language and culture centers have been opened in 14 countries to date, according to the Minister.
Further, more than 30 thousand Mongolians study abroad, including in China, South Korea, the U.S. and Australia. There are also 130 thousand illegal Mongolian migrants around the world, and 60 thousand of them live in South Korea.
