Kyrgyzstan interested in becoming OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme co-chair: Government

AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan is interested in becoming a co-chair of the Eurasia Competitiveness Programme of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Pankratov said.

Pankratov took part in the OECD Eurasia Week 2016 in Paris, France on November 22-24, the press service of the Government said on November 29, Tazabek reported.

OECD Eurasia Week serves as a platform for a discussion on a broad spectrum of thematic issues relevant to further improving the region’s competitiveness.

On the sidelines of the OECD Eurasia Week, results of the ongoing programs aimed at improving competitiveness of small and medium-sized businesses in Kyrgyzstan were presented.

Pankratov remarked that the reforms affected the three priority directions of Kyrgyz economic policy defined in cooperation with the OECD in 2013.

"Those directions are providing access to financing for SMEs, human capital development, attracting investments and supporting local exporters. Special attention was paid to the support of domestic business in the conditions of Kyrgyzstan's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and obtaining the GSP + status from the EU," he said.

Kazakhstan has been a co-chair of the program last 3 years.

OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme supports developing more vibrant and competitive markets – both at national and regional level – through capacity building and advisory work to improve the business climate in Central Asia, South Caucasus and Ukraine.
