AKIPRESS.COM - A native of Kyrgyzstan Valentina Shevchenko has maintained the leading position in the strongest UFC fighters in the world.
The updated ranking was published on February 1 as a result of the UFC on Fox 23 results in Denver, where Shevchenko defeated Peña by second-round armbar on January 29.
This victory was the third in the UFC tournament and the 14th in all official MMA tournaments for Shevchenko.
The Kyrgyz fighter kept the first place in women's lightweight (61.2 kg) and now she has to fight for the title in her weight category against current champion Amanda Nunes.
Peña after losing to Shevchenko dropped to 4th place.
Shevchenko takes 2nd place in the Sherdod ranking, the second after the current champion Nunes.
