Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: Ghost village of Kyzyl-Ompol in Issyk-Kul region

AKIPRESS.COM - There is an abandoned village named Kyzyl-Ompol in Issyk-Kul region that is located on the roadside leading to the Naryn region, reports Turmush.

There is nothing left in this village except for some half-ruined houses.

According to head of Kok-Moinok village Mairam Kydyraliyeva, Kyzyl-Ompol village was founded in 1981.

Back then, there was a construction company KyrgyzKurulush, which built homes in the village from 1983 to 1991.

The village had 65-70 houses in those years.

In 1988, a school was built by the locals along with some farms.

But in 2001, when KyrgyzKurulush ceased to exist, the locals abandoned the place.

According to the State Registration Service of Kyrgyzstan, the village area is 39 hectares.

The name Kyzyl-Ompol meaning "red hill" in Kyrgyz came from the Manas epic.
