Israeli national with ammunition detained at Tashkent airport

AKIPRESS.COM - airportA discharged soldier of the Israeli army with 13 cartridges in his bag was detained at the International Tashkent Airport, reports IzRis.

Having completed a compulsory military service, the soldier was flying to Thailand by transfer through Uzbekistan, where the security officers found cartridges while checking his bag for landing the plane on March 9.

The detained soldier was placed in preliminary detention center of the Tashkent airport since March 9. The Consul of Israel in Uzbekistan has visited him and asked the representatives of the border service to take into consideration the fact that it was an unintentional mistake. However, Uzbek authorities are going to transfer the soldier to the police station of Tashkent and bring charges against him for carrying ammunition. The Foreign Ministry of Israel is trying to help the detainee.

This is not the first time when such incident occurred in Uzbekistan. In January 2010, the border guards detained a 21-year-old woman from Israel at the Tashkent airport carrying a bag with cartridges. Then the incident was explained by accidental mistake of the passenger, who borrowed the bag from her soldier friend and did not check what was inside the bag.
