MP proposes to shift Kyrgyz alphabet from Cyrillic to Latin

AKIPRESS.COM - Главное фотоMP Kanybek Imanaliyev has proposed to shift the Kyrgyz alphabet from the Cyrillic to the Latin on April 13 during the Parliament meeting.

The suggestion followed the order of the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev given to the Government on April 12 to start preparatory work and create a schedule for the switch of Kazakh writing system from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet.

"Not right now, but after a while, by 2030-2040 years we should also switch to the Latin alphabet," said MP Imanaliyev.

He noted that people in Russia call Kyrgyzstan in different ways: Kirgizia, Kizgiz Republic, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, etc.

"The is no a single translation. Who will respect us for that?" stated Imanaliyev.
