Timeline of Kyrgyz currency development since 1993

AKIPRESS.COM - National currency of the Kyrgyz Republic, the som, was introduced on May 10, 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble after Kyrgyzstan got independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

On May 10, 2018, the som turns 25. The ISO 4217 currency code is KGS. The som is sub-divided into 100 tyiyn.

Since 1993, 4 series of Kyrgyz som banknotes have been issued, including modified banknotes of denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 soms.
