On May 10, 2018, the som turns 25. The ISO 4217 currency code is KGS. The som is sub-divided into 100 tyiyn.
Since 1993, 4 series of Kyrgyz som banknotes have been issued, including modified banknotes of denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 soms.
