Atambayev welcomed the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on Kyrgyz land and said he was happy to see him.
"Welcome to Kyrgyzstan, your Holiness. I remember the times when you warmly welcomed me in Moscow. I am pleased to see developments in our ties. We've finished a renovation of the cathedral, we're opening soon a church and I think we'll see opening of the churches here further," said Atambayev.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, for his part, said he's watching the activities of the president.
"I remember our first meeting. All this time that has past since then I am watching your activities and want to thank you for your attention to the Orthodox church. Presence of the Orthodox church here makes the Kyrgyz society multinational, multiconfessional," he said praising the stable society that Kyrgyzstan has and the role that Atambayev plays in it.
