Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: Craftswoman Abyshova wins 50,000 soms at 7th Kyrgyz Shyrdagy festival

AKIPRESS.COM - 7th international festival Kyrgyz Shyrdagy has ended in At-Bashy district of Naryn region, leader of “Altyn Choichok Uzdary” handicraftsmen association Taalai Aliyeva told Turmush.

According to her, the festival took place on June 28-29. Craftswomen from 7 regions of Kyrgyzstan participated in the festival. The best shyrdaks (Shyrdak - Kyrgyz traditional carpet made of felt) were chosen in the framework of the festival. More than 3,000 Kyrgyz shyrdaks were displayed at the festival.

As a result of the competition, Grand Prix was given to resident of Kara-Suu of At-Bashy district Damira Abyshova. She was awarded with 50,000 som. For the second and third place craftswomen received 40,000 and 30,00 som respectively. Two more craftswomen received per 10,000 som for their shyrdaks.

There were also other craftswomen who were awarded with money and certificates of appreciation for their works in different categories.

100,000 som were allocated from the Fund of Chairperson of the Parliament, while Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism allocated 200,000 som for organization of the event. Local governments also supported the festival.
