AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev sent a telegram of condolences to Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico, over the deadly earthquakes that left at least 90 dead.
"The Kazakh leader was deeply saddened by the news of numerous victims as the result of a major earthquake in Mexico," Nazarbayev's press office said in a statement.
"On behalf of Kazakhstan’s nation and on my own behalf, I express my condolences to you, to the families of the victims, and to all the people of Mexico. I wish the injured to get well soon and rehabilitation of populated areas’ infrastructure," the telegram reads.
A massive earthquake off southern Mexico on Thursday night that killed at least 90 people damaged tens of thousands of homes and afflicted upwards of two million people in the poorer south, state officials said, as more details of the disaster emerged.
The 8.1 magnitude quake off the coast of Chiapas state was stronger than a 1985 temblor that flattened swathes of Mexico City and killed thousands. However, its greater depth and distance helped save the capital from more serious damage.
