AKIPRESS.COM - Several citizens of the Czech Republic wearing Borat-style green mankinis took photos in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital city.
They have reportedly been detained. Astana police said they've filed administrative protocols against the foreigners for minor hooliganism.
6 foreigners, despite snow and cold weather, wore green Borat-style mankinis to take photos on the background of "I love Astana" letters on November 10.
Materials were handed over to the Astana inter-district administrative court for further actions. The court for its part ruled to fine each of the detainees about $68 for minor hooliganism.
Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is a 2006 British-American mockumentary comedy film written and produced by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen who also plays the title character, Borat Sagdiyev, a fictitious Kazakh journalist travelling through the United States recording real-life interactions with Americans.
The government of Kazakhstan at first denounced Borat. In 2005, following Borat's appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, the country's Foreign Ministry threatened to sue Sacha Baron Cohen, and Borat's "Kazakh-based" website, www.borat.kz, was taken down. Kazakhstan also launched a multi-million dollar "Heart of Eurasia" campaign to counter the Borat effect.
