More than 100 trucks trapped on way to coal mine in Tajikistan due to snowfall

AKIPRESS.COM - More than 100 trucks stuck on the way to the largest Fon-Yaghnob coal mine in Tajikistan, which is located in Ayni district due to the snowfall, the Tajik language service of RFE/RL reports.

One of the truck drivers Farhod Radjobov on November 26 said that they do not know when the help will come. Others say that they were heading to Ayni district to deliver coal for heating some of the enterprises and schools as soon as possible due to the weather condition.

"However, now we are forced to warm ourselves," the drivers joked.

Fon-Yaghnob is the largest coal mine in Tajikistan and provides coal to Dushanbe thermal power plant, the TALKO aluminium plant, Tajikcement and Huaxin Gaiur Cement.

The volume of coal extraction in Tajikistan is growing every year: 1 million ton in 2015 versus 1,300 tons in 2016. At a moment, about 200 domestic enterprises operate on coal.
