UN political chief in rare visit to Pyongyang

AKIPRESS.COM - Jeffrey Feltman, the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, will visit North Korea from December 5 to 8, North Korean media reported.

The visit to the DPRK – at the invitation of the North Korean government – will be the first by Feltman during his tenure at the UN and the first such visit by an individual in his position since 2010.

“Mr. Feltman will discuss with DPRK officials issues of mutual interest and concern. He will also meet with the United Nations Country Team and members of the diplomatic corps, as well as visit UN project sites,” the UN press release read.

According to the UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA) twitter account, Feltman will be meeting with North Korean foreign minister Ri Yong Ho and other as yet unnamed officials.

The DPA told NK News on Monday that Feltman is also scheduled to meet with the country’s vice foreign minister Pak Myong Guk.
