AKIPRESS.COM - The General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan has officially confirmed the reports on the arrest of former Prosecutor General Rashid Kadyrov.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, Kadyrov is accused of extortion, abuse of power and bribery.

A spokesman of the General Prosecutor's Office Bohid Sharopov on February 23 claimed that Kadyrov was not arrested and no investigation is carried out against him. On February 24, the General Prosecutor's Office officially declared about the arrest of Kadyrov and the launched probes against him.

The sources said that Kadyrov's house was searched on February 22, after which, Kadyrov was taken from the house in handcuffs.

The 66-year-old Kadyrov is being questioned today.

Rashid Kadyrov was removed from the post of Prosecutor General in April 2015.
