Tajikistan plans to reduce volume of water discharge by increasing electricity export

AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan plans to reduce the water discharge during the summer season from the reservoirs and hydropower plants, Avesta reports.

The country this year will start supplying electricity to Uzbekistan, as soon as the sides will sign the relevant documents between the energy companies.

The JSC Barqi Tojik earlier reported that the talks with Uzbekistan on export of the Tajik electricity are being held today. Tajikistan might export up to 1.5 billion kWh of electricity to Uzbekistan.

In terms of Afghanistan, Tajikistan this year plans to export about 1.5 billion kWh of electricity to Afghanistan, which is 200 million kWh more than in 2017. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan exchange electricity in summer and winter periods, the company said.

Increasing the volume of electricity supplies this year will allow to reduce the discharge of water from the Nurek reservoir.

The annual water discharge from the reservoirs of Tajikistan is more than 6 billion kWh of electricity. Last year, the volume of water discharge was more than 10 billion cubic meters of water.
