AKIPRESS.COM - A two-day seminar was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana on the legal acts and mechanisms regulating the police’s work in combating domestic violence in Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan.

On the first day, some 150 community police officers from North Kazakhstan Region discussed best practices in preventing and addressing domestic violence through community policing. During the second day, two national civil society experts monitored police performance in this field. A similar event will take place in Almaty Region in May.

In 2017, a series of training seminars on this topic was conducted in Almaty, Karaganda Region, Pavlodar, Pavlodar Region, Uralsk and West Kazakhstan Region, bringing together participants from the surrounding areas.

An analytical paper to monitor the effectiveness of police work in this area will be drafted by the national experts. The report will be presented to the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the conclusion of the project.

The seminars are part of the Programme Office’s multi-year efforts to assist the host country and civil society representatives in preventing and combating domestic violence and in offering professional social services to victims.
