Turkmenistan FM Meredov says world is watching Korean Peninsula situation and hopes to see good results

AKIPRESS.COM - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov paid an official visit to Seoul, South Korea on Friday.

Meredov met with South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and discussed ways to strengthen economic and other relations between the two countries, the South Korean Prime Minister's office said.

Lee and Meredov agreed that South Korea and Turkmenistan are good economic partners to each other because their economies are mutually supplementary, with South Korea rich in technology and economic development experiences, and Turkmenistan rich in energy and resources, Yonhap news agency said.

Meredov said South Korean companies operating in the Central Asian nation are contributing to the country's economic development. He also expressed hope to expand cooperation between the two countries beyond the energy and resources sector to other areas.

Lee said he hopes to see more South Korean firms have a presence in Turkmenistan so that they can contribute to the country's economic development, job creation and business-to-business cooperation between the two countries.

Lee briefed Meredov on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and asked for Turkmenistan's support, saying the dialogue atmosphere created between South and North Korea on the occasion of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics has led to agreements on summits between the two Koreas and between the North and the U.S.

Meredov said the world is closely watching the Korean Peninsula situation and that he hopes to see good results.

Meredov also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea Ms. Kang Kyung-hwa and discussed political relations, development of trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. They also signed a cooperation program for 2018-2020 between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea.
