Mongolia, U.S agree to hold Trade and Investment Framework Agreement meeting

AKIPRESS.COM - The second consultative meeting of Mongolia-U.S Economic Policy Dialogue took place on May 22 in Washington, D.C. Minister of Foreign Affairs Damin Tsogtbaatar led the Mongolian part and U.S State Department Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs Brian McFeeters headed U.S part.

At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on wide range of issues on bilateral economic ties and discussed economic issues including United States’ strategy on Indo-Pacific Ocean, Mongolian macro-economic reform, investment environment and trade promotion, legal advice, export diversification of Mongolian goods and service, backing small and medium enterprises, investment in private sector, health and social welfare, renewable energy and the environment. The sides also discussed a plan on developing roadmap to expand bilateral economic ties, Montsame reported.

The sides welcomed conclusion of official talks between the Government of Mongolia and MCC on Second Compact Agreement and agreed to organize bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement meeting in the near future.

Present at the meeting were representatives from Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Department of the Americas and the Middle East, Department of International Law and Treaty, and the Embassy in Washington, DC, the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Export-Import Bank of the United States, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
