Kyrgyzstan eyes setting up probation institute

AKIPRESS.COM - Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jenish Razakov chaired the Cabinet meeting Saturday on the introduction of a probation institute in Kyrgyzstan.

"Global practice confirmed that probation institutes humanize judicial law enforcement practices, increase effectiveness of adaptation in the society of persons who have violated the law. Probation institutes  help in reducing the level of prison population and recidivism," he said.

Some work on introduction of the probation institute has already been done in Kyrgyzstan, he said, but much needs to be done ahead with combined efforts.

The Cabinet members were tasked with taking special control over the matters related to regulatory, financial and logistical support needed for the introduction of the probation institute in the country.

The meeting participants also discussed mechanisms for improving legislation in the field of combating organized crimes.

"Organized crime restrains economic and social development of the country and significantly affects the overall criminogenic situation. We need good legal and regulatory framework to counter organized crimes," said Razakov highlighting importance of developing conceptual mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of law enforcement bodies in the fight against organized crime.

Razakov also instructed the relevant state bodies to quickly analyze the proposals discussed during the meeting and make needed amendments to the legislation in the field of combating organized crime.
