AKIPRESS.COM - National Human Rights Centre (NHRC) and UNDP are launching a joint project “Support to implementation of Charter-based and Treaty Bodies recommendations in Uzbekistan”, the UN Office in Tashkent said. 

This new initiative is aimed at enhancing the capacities of national institutions on human rights to effectively and transparently implement the recommendations of UN Charter-based and Treaty Bodies in accordance with Uzbekistan's international legal obligations in the field of human rights.

The joint project to enhance the capacity of national institutions on human rights started its activities in May 2018 and will continue until December 2021. The key areas of the Joint Project will be:

1. Assistance to national partners in collaboration with OHCHR and regional organizations

2. Support for monitoring the implementation of the recommendations from the Charter- based and the Human Rights Treaty Bodies

3. The development of institutional capacity to implement the provisions of international human rights law

4. The development of the capacity of national human rights institutions.

The implementation of the project will enhance the role of NHRC in the enhancement of public policy on human rights, development of strategic documents on implementation of Constitution and law as well as further implementation of international human rights treaties, to which Uzbekistan is party to.
