Iran says transport cooperation with Turkmenistan to decline because of unilateral 50% increase in tolls for transit
Central Asia | society | 14:57, 06 June 2018 | 1343

AKIPRESS.COM - Head of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization Abdol Hasham Hassan Nia said that Iran will probably decrease cooperation in road transportation with Turkmenistan because of the 50% hikes in fees by Turkmenistann for transit.

The remarks were made during the meeting with Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Iran Ahmad Korbanov, Irna news agency reported.

The Iranian side criticized Turkmenistan for unilateral attempt to receive tolls from Iran transit fleet in Turkmenistan.

He also urged Turkmen envoy to do his best to decrease or remove these tolls.

Due to the fact that Iranian side has not boosted tolls for Turkmen trucks, Turkmenistan is also expected to maintain more cooperation in this case, he added.

Iranian official also called for holding expert meeting between two sides to discuss the problem.

Korbanov, for his part, said he is interested in developing road transportation between Iran and Turkmenistan. He also expressed hope for expert meetings to bring good results.
