Train service resumes after derailment in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - The railway service on a major line in Mongolia has resumed after a derailment incident two days ago, Xinhua reports citing rail authorities Tuesday.

The rail service linking the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator and Sainshand, the capital city of the southeastern province of Dornogovi resumed on Monday evening after an almost two-day suspension, the Ulan Bator Railway company said in a statement.

A team of 486 engineers and workers were mobilized to deal with the problem, it said.

A train with 328 passengers aboard derailed early Sunday morning near Airag soum, about 120 km northwest of Sainshand, which injured nine passengers including three children, and damaged railroad embankments. It was raining heavily in the area when the accident occurred.

The injured passengers are still receiving treatment in hospital, according to the Mongolian Health Ministry.
