AKIPRESS.COM - A knifeman shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ has been shot dead by police after murdering a passer-by and wounding two others in a Paris suburb, Daily Mail reports.

The attack took place in the commuter town of Trappes, in the Yvelines department west of the French capital.

According to witnesses quoted in French media, the man shouted 'Allahu akbar', meaning 'God is great' in Arabic, as he carried out the attack.

French media reports the man was known to police. Officials have said that it is not clear if the violence was terror-related.

A police operation is currently underway in the suburb with armed officers patrolling the streets and several areas cordoned off.

Trappes has a population of around 30,000 and is part of the far suburbs of the greater Paris area.
