Regional workshop for transboundary animal diseases control held in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - The Asia-Pacific regional workshop for Transboundary Animal Diseases Control was jointly organized on August 22-23 by the Government of Mongolia and the World Organization for Animal Health was held in Ulaanbaatar, Montsame reports.

The participants exchanged information and experience on animal diseases that may occur in Asia, specifically in East Asia, strategies and measures taken at world and regional levels.

“In cooperation with the National Institute of Animal Health of Japan, we implemented the project themed ‘Improving diagnostic capacity of foot-and-mouth disease, bird flu and other cross-border infectious diseases’ in 2016-2018. As a result, the diagnostic capacity of veterinary laboratories in Mongolia met the international standards. The delegates emphasized that it forms the legal environment. The conference is a part of foreign cooperation after establishment of the General Office for Veterinary Services,” said Mr. B.Batsukh, Head in charge of Sanitary and Certification at the General Office for Veterinary Services.

The participants noted that one of the main reasons for the spread of infectious animal diseases is related to the irresponsibility of herders and that the regional cooperation is important in combating transboundary infectious diseases.

Over 70 representatives of 20 countries attended the conference.
