Incheon to help Ulaanbaatar turn dumpsite into forest

AKIPRESS.COM - Within the Memorandum of Understanding established between Mayors of Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia and Incheon city of Korea, afforestation project 'Incheon Hope Forest' was launched in the 21st Khoroo of Songinokhairkhan district on October 13, Montsame news agency reports.

Aimed at eliminating soil pollution and creating green zone against desertification, the project will be realized over 10 years. In the frames of the project, trees will be planted on a total of 100 hectares of area which had been a damp site and favorable environment will be created for citizens to spend their leisure time comfortably.

The project launch ceremony was attended by representatives of Incheon city administration, its citizens, officials of the Environment Agency of the capital city, forest rangers and citizens of Songinokhairkhan district.

According to a survey, the Environment Agency reported that soil of 20.6 percent area of the capital city is polluted at higher-than-permitted level whereas 74.5 percent area at minimum level.
