AKIPRESS.COM - Lonely Planet has unveiled the top best travel destinations for 2019 in a new Best in Travel 2019 book and Kyrgyzstan came in fifth place.

According to Lonely Planet, Kyrgyzstan is “a nation defined by its natural beauty. Joyously unspoilt mountainscapes, stark craggy ridges and rolling jailoos (summer pastures) are brought to life by semi-nomadic, yurt-dwelling shepherds.”

Kyrgyzstan’s moment on the world tourism stage seems to have come following huge buzz from the 2018 World Nomad Games, Central Asia’s competition dedicated to its traditional (and quirky) regional sports. The time to visit has never been better – more than 2700km of newly marked trekking routes; a countrywide push of community-run tour products; a revamped national highway system cutting transit times immensely; and a simplified e-visa programme for those not on the list of 60+ visa-free countries – but do it now: Kyrgyzstan is quickly becoming an in-the-know favourite for independent travellers seeking unspoilt natural beauty, the Lonely Planet wrote.

The top 10 countries in the world to visit were identified and ranked in order.

Sri Lanka was named the number one spot to visit in 2019 as it opens up to new travellers like never before. Germany was ranked in second place, Zimbabwe was the third, and Panama was the fourth.

Jordan came in sixth place followed by Indonesia in seventh place and Belarus in eight place. São Tomé and Príncipe - an African island nation - took ninth place while number 10 went to Belize in Central America.
