NI events mark 100 years since end of World War One

AKIPRESS.COM - Services have been held across Northern Ireland to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War, ITV News reports.

Crowds fell silent across the UK at 11am to mark the centenary of the Armistice, when the treaty was signed which ended the the battle on the Western Front at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

Belfast’s event was held at the War Memorial in the grounds of City Hall on what was also Remembrance Sunday.

Events were also held on Northern Ireland beaches, joining over 30 across the UK and Ireland for Pages of the Sea, Danny Boyle's commission to mark the centenary of Armistice Day.

In London, ten thousand people took part in a procession past the Cenotaph. World leaders including US President Donald Trump also gathered in Paris to commemorate the anniversary.
