AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev told the Secretary of State of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zas that Kazakhstan backs Belarus' candidate for CSTO Secretary General. Zas is nominated by Belarus for the post.
During the recent EAEU summit in St. Petersburg, the presidents of member states decided to support the candidate of Alexander Lukashenko, Nazarbayev noted.
"You've already started meeting with leaders of the Organization’s member state, been to Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan is the current president of the CSTO. I am sure that your meetings went well,” said Nazarbayev.
Nazarbayev called Zas experienced professional ready to assume this post. "We will fully support your candidacy," Nazarbayev said.
On November 8 during the CSTO summit in Astana, the presidents failed to choose the new CSTO Secretary General after Yuriy Khachaturov stepped down from the post prematurely because of the probe launched against him.
