AKIPRESS.COM - The New York Times has included Uzbekistan into the list of 52 places to go in 2019. Earlier, uzbekistan was included into the top-40 places to visit by The Guardian.
“If you have ever wanted to travel the Silk Road, now may be the time to go. After more than 25 years since the fall of the Soviet Union, the former member country of Uzbekistan — home to some of the most alluring stretches of that historic trail — is finally going through its own perestroika,” The New York Times said.
Among the many modernizing reforms The New York Times noted better official exchange rates and the ability to book flights and apply for visas online.
Ground and air travel have also improved regionally, borders with neighboring countries were reopened, flight routes between Central Asian capitals were re-established, flight service between New York and Tashkent was increased.
In addition to the relatively new Hyatt Regency in Tashkent, a number of other international hotels are expected to open in the next couple of years, including the country’s first ski resort, as well as a new tourist zone in Bukhara, The New York Times said.
