Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: Naryn gold prospectors pan out gold despite -30°C weather

AKIPRESS.COM - Placer miners from Eki-Naryn village pan out gold along the Naryn River despite -30°C temperature, Turmush reports.

They need it to provide their families because the village has no jobs.

"We're not looking for the government's aid, we try to solve our problems on our own. Every season, despite challenging weather conditions, we search gold. The water is very cold, but we wear special uniform. It's life," placer miner Chintemir Dushenaaly said.

He said a group of 4-5 prospectors work together every morning, all the money from sold gold they split equally.

The price for 1 gram of gold they find is 1,900 soms ($27.21).

"Sometimes we find enough, sometimes we end up with nothing," he adds.
