Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: 26yo runs his own fish farm on mountain slope in rural Jalal-Abad

AKIPRESS.COM - A 26-year-old resident of Chatkal district of the Jalal-abad region Tilek Andashev told Turmush how he opened his own fish farm.

Andashev built a pool for fish breeding on the slope of mountain along Kara-Suu river 12 km away from his home in 2016, and currently his fish farm has over 60,000 fish.

“After graduation from school, I told my parents that I want to leave country for abroad to earn money for my own fish farm," he says.

However, his parents gave him money, purchased a land plot along Kara-Suu river, and Tilek stayed home.

To start his business, he brought juvenile fish from Bishkek. Now his fish farm has 5 pools for fish breeding. He said he spent $60,000 to open a business. By now, he already sells fish.

A key to success, according to Tilek, is to keep pools clean and change water on time. Water temperature should be +12… +13 degrees.

This year, Tilek plans to open a small recreation center near his fish farm for guests to be able to taste his fish dishes.
