AKIPRESS.COM - Court in Almaty fined and jailed three Kazakh activists for unauthorized demonstration during the Sunday marathon in Almaty when several activists hung a banner which read “You can't run from the truth" and hashtag #Ihaveachoice in Russian.

On April 21, two activists — Asiya Tulesova and Beibarys Tolymbekov — were found guilty of holding an unauthorized demonstration and sentenced to 15 days in jail. Suinbike Suleimenova was reportedly fined for filming the holding of the banner.

After Tulesova and Tolymbekov were sentenced, the courtroom audience chanted “Shame!"

Kazakh Interior Minister Yerlan Turgumbayev said "the activists were detained for violation of laws on demonstrations and posters interrupted the marathon because runners were stopping to take photos."
