Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister participates in OSCE Structured Dialogue in Vienna

AKIPRESS.COM - Delegation of Tajikistan led by Mr. Zohir Saidzoda, the Deputy Foreign Minister, participated in the session of the OSCE Structured Dialogue on 6-7 May 2019 in Vienna.

In accordance with the agenda of the meeting, the head of the Tajik delegation has delivered a key note speech to the participants of the second session of the Dialogue, devoted to the political and military aspects of the fight against terrorism, Tajik foreign ministry said.

Mr. Zohir Saidzoda briefed the OSCE participating States on the contribution of the Republic of Tajikistan in countering the modern threats and challenges related to terrorism and violent extremism, as well as the process of implementation by Tajikistan of its obligations and commitments within the international and regional legal instruments.

In the context of the political and military dimension of cooperation with the OSCE, Mr. Saidzoda expressed satisfaction over the implementation of a number of joint projects and programs with OSCE, particularly development of the National Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan on Countering Extremism and Terrorism for 2016-2020, the police reform, capacity building of the law enforcement officers in the management of the stocks of small and light weapons (SALW) and conventional ammunition (CA), and the humanitarian demining.

Referring to the problem of drug trafficking as one of the main sources of financing terrorism, the Tajik Deputy Minister has called upon the OSCE participating States to take part in the High-level Conference on “International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime” (Dushanbe, 16-17 May 2019).
